Distribution of Medical Equipment to Support Health Services at Puskesmas Around Mentarang Induk Hydroelectric Project (MIHEP) Area
On December 16, 2024, three health facilities in Mentarang District, located around the Mentarang Induk Hydroelectric Project (MIHEP) area, received medical equipment support from PT Kayan Hydropower Nusantara (KHN). The handover was carried out at the Community Healthcare Centre (Puskesmas) of Mentarang-Sungai Tubu Subdistrict, which oversees and monitors the health facilities involved in the programme. In addition to Puskesmas Induk, Puskesmas Pembantu of Paking Village and Puskesmas Pembantu of Harapan Maju Village were also the target of this programme.
The assistance included 17 types of medical equipment, totaling 26 units, such as folding stretchers, doppler devices, examination beds with steps, oxygen tanks, instrument trolleys, and other medical supplies. All the provided equipment consists of reusable medical devices that the Puskesmas had not previously had. These items are aimed at helping healthcare workers improve the quality of health services for the community.
Hambar Endro Prabowo, Manager of Stakeholder Management at KHN, explained that this initiative is part of the company's commitment to supporting public health, especially in areas that need better medical facilities.
“This programme is part of the ‘KHN Lestari’ Corporate Environmental and Social Responsibility initiative under the pillar of Lestari Kehidupan, which focuses on improving public health by providing health facilities in villages affected by MIHEP. We hope the medical equipment provided will be useful, particularly for Pustu Paking Village and Pustu Harapan Maju Village, which lost many of their equipment due to the major floods earlier this year,” said Hambar.
Mardiawaty, S.Kep., Head of Puskesmas Mentarang-Sungai Tubu Subdistrict, expressed her gratitude, saying, “On behalf of the head of Puskesmas Induk and Community Health Educator, I would like to sincerely thank KHN for their support. The KHN team has been very responsive and cooperative in addressing our requests and providing the medical equipment we needed.”
On 18 December 2024, KHN also distributed First Aid Kits (Kotak P3K) to each RT (neighborhood unit) in the villages impacted by the MIHEP. The kits were handed over to village heads and sub-district heads for distribution across 27 RTs affected by the project.
These two health program initiatives were created based on a survey of the conditions at Puskesmas, in-depth discussions with Puskesmas staff, as well as input from the communities through previously held Forum Group Discussions (FGD) in each village affected by MIHEP. The provision of medical equipment and first aid kits is expected to support public safety and health, ensuring that first aid is accessible at every RT in case of accidents.
With other health programs under the Lestari Kehidupan initiative, these two efforts are intended to improve various aspects of public health, including the effectiveness of healthcare services, routine health checkups, and emergency first aid.
